performance and comunication

In my first lesson with Seb he made us take note of are weekly scedual so that we can try and learn how to fit course work and rehrusal in to are normal week. This was a helpfull exersise as it helps us understand are time and how we can manage it, because i have a written lay out of my week it helps me be able to fit in slots where i can do my corse work and rehrsal.

My week

Monday: wake up at 6:30 then get ready for uni that takes me about and hour and a half, feed the rabbit and mess around with him for a little bit. I leave to get the bus at 8:50 and get the bus around 9:15, I get to colchester around 10:10 the go to uni. I finish at 1:00 the go home and normally chill out and make dinner.

Tuesday: When I finish collage I then get the bus home, once Im hime I wait till 4:30-5:00 for my student to show up I will have him around an hour and a half to two hours. I the make mine and the rabbits dinner and the prepare his breakfast.

Wednesday: do pretty much the same as Tuesday.

Thursday: I have a lay in the mess around with the rabbit then go to work around 1-1:30

I finish anywhere from 2-3 depends if I get given extra work. I normally have a wash when I get home then I get picked up at 5:00 for dinner at my grandparents then go to my dads till around 8:80-9:00 and whilst im at my dads I will do any work to do with uni that needs to be done.

Friday: if I didn’t go to work on Thursday it will be the same if I go on the Friday id I don’t work I have a lay in. Then I usually use Friday as my day to chill out I might go out in the evening.

Saturday: if I have work that needs to be done and I went out the night before I will spend the day and the night finishing what I need to do. I also might try to fit in a little uke or singing practice if I can.

Sunday: I have a lay in mess around with the rabbit and do odd things that I need to do till 4:45 and then I go to my grammars and after I then go to my dads and do what I normally would on Thursday.

What experience I gained from communication:

  • I have found that when Trying to explain what I want another musician to do I have to say it clearly in a way that they will understand
  • Say what you are trying to explain slowly.
  • When working with children I find that demonstrating what you want then to do
  • also with children I found that if you get on their level or seem relatable they listen to you more
  • don’t over complicate it
  • sometimes how you feel can affect you’re communication

Tuesday 12th October 2021

I played a C chord on the high and the low end of the piano using a sustained peddle I held it then I tried to fade it out nicely but I lifted my foot to fast and it gave it a bit of an abrupt ending.

In todays lesson on the 12th October, Seb told us that we had to use an instrument of are choice. we had to play in front of the class one single chord but we could use different octaves of the same chord. I chose to use the Piano after feeling nervous last week to help me develop. I chose to play the high C chord and C on a lower octave whilst using the sustained peddle, I tried to fade it out slowly but I lifted my foot to fast and it had an abrupt ending. After I played it the class made me the class gave me comments about what I played these are some of the comments I got from my nites today.

Playing 1 note exercise:

  • Areas of development are not certain.
  • Strong
  • felt like the beginning of something
  • commanding
  • strike full
  • keep the sustained peddle longer by letting it fade out naturally
  • abrupt end
  • confident ending
  • pride

After I played it I told the class that intended it to be bold and one I played it it made me think of think of “Its All Coming Back To Me Now” by Celine Deon and that has a bold bold intro on the piano that is a similar kind of technique.

Tuesday 19th October

Today in sebs lesson he put us all together to be a group ensemble and all he told us was that we had to make a song in 35 minuets. I remember Zoe saying we need to pick a key and we call chatted amongst are selves and we settled on the key of C. Then Lucas started playing around on the keyboard and came up with a full chord rhythm. He then ended up making pat play the four chord’s.then lucas played some embeleshments on the keybpred in the highter key. Brooke was on the base and played a bases line that revolved around the same four chords. When we were first trying to arrange the piano section it was quite hard for Lucas and Patricia to figure out what they were playing I then suggested that maybe one of them should play the route note’s and the other one to play the sequence but that idea later on got scrapped and they continue to do it the way they were.Originally I was going to be on vocals doing some vocal runs and Adlibs with Zoe I then decided I was going to do the Cajon as I’ve been on it a few weeks recently and thought maybe I could develop a bit more, at first I started playing a really simple beat that was similar to a metronome I then tried to play something a bit more complicated but then the group told me I should go back to playing the original one beat i played. Personally I feel that I could of played it well enough to make it fit with the track if I had more time to practice. Are song gave gaveme a very relaxed and atmospheric feel.

whilst we was performing the peice their were some parts that were improvised for example whilst Zoe was singing she was experamenting with what she could do with her voice and how she could use it. Lucas also improvised on the end of the track as he stared to play an outro that we had never planed and even though he made a few mistakes or hit a chord that did fit in to what we was playing, he still had the intention to make it work and he still was able to pull it off with out you even knoing it was improvised.

I understand The method behind the madness of the exercises that Seb makes us do. We have to realise that even something that is as simple as playing one note Is a performance and that their is always areas of improvement. He is also trying to make us understand, I feel that improvisation isn’t something scary and that we should try to ignore and it should be something that we can experiment with to create new things and develop a new skill that we can use all throughout our musical career.

Personally this isnt my favorite way of learning as i srtuggle with anxiaty of messing up and feeling like im not as good as the other musishans around me. but i know this is the main reason he makes us do this as getting over this anxiaty is somthing all musishans will have to get over sooner or later. This is peobaly the reason why he makes us do it in a chill inviorment around peolpe we know. so we dont have to feel aqward if something gose wrong as it is something that we are all going through at the same time.

Also in lesson we had peer asses eachothers work to see where we all are with are blog and give a comment, this was what i got from my class mate.

Great use of descriptive terms and very detailed exploration of what you personally did in your performance, and the comparison to a popular song shows us what your intentions were with the performance.

Perhaps it would be beneficial to further develop on how you plan to use this exercise in your future performances and song-writing sessions and what you felt was impactful for you.

Taking his advice i feel when im working on my song wrighing by my self, i need to mess around more with chords and not be affraid to play somethig new even if i dont fully know what im doing. As if i never try new technique’s i will never develope ad will always be in the same place. when i sing that is where i mostly use improvising as i try experament with key and harmony. Even when i am performingi still try and guess if im going to sing the wright note. I also try and experament with the lyrics of a track by making it more ofmy own.

Tuseday 2nd November

In todays lesson we had to look at each others blogs and give a comment about how he have understood the tasks that we have been given in class. This was the comment that I was given by Pat abiut my blog.

– realising that improvisation it’s nothing scary and not being afraid to experiment with it – seeing that maybe being on a Cajun wouldn’t be too bad as you’re gaining a new experience on not your main instrument – willing to work on song writing and experimenting with chords and keys you don’t feel comfortable with.

To improve my musical skill i coud in lessons use the Cajun when i havent got my Ukeelle. As Pat said when i work n my song wrightin not to be affraid to use cords that i dont know

In are lesson today we had to do a cover of a song that Zoe had chosen, brook got made to be the producer and the rest of us were session musicians. As Zoe was the one singing the track I was unable to sing so I was a little worried as I didn’t really have anything that I could do to add to the peace and as I didn’t know it it made me feel a little useless as I couldn’t sing along with her or do some backing. Brook was the one who told me that I should play the Box Drum as that was all I was able to play. I liked that I was now involved, but I felt like what I was playing was a bit boring and repetitive. When we performed it to Seb he asked if there was anything that we thought that we could have improved and I said that their was a section where I thought that the Piano and the Box Drum didn’t blend well together and that they classed. So when it came to that particular piano part we decided that I wouldn’t play but I feel their were other parts of the track that I still clashed with. After we played with the improvement Seb asked again if we thought their was things left to improve and I said that maybe Zoe should try on the chorus section that she should try harmonise. This was an interesting experience it wasn’t how I would usually make music with a group I feel like I could to it better if it was that I knew. The feedback we got was that her idea was realistic and her target of it being striped back was success. I have learnt when working with a producer that its helpful having someone take charge of whats happening and to give us an understanding of working together. I was confident in the fact I have been playing the box drum a few weeks now and if its something simple I feel like I can play well enough for what piece we are making. Being a session musician wouldn’t be my first choice as I don’t really like that its usually improvising as its not one of my strong points.

Tseday 9th November 2021

In the first part of are lesson we had to look at each others blogs Zoe looked at mine this is the comment thst she gave me.

You have put good comments on lectures and tasks involved – and good comments made on areas of development and how you found the tasks. Maybe in future posts include more musical terms, and practices and how you could use them in future exercises.

To help myself improve my work i have been doing some personal reasurch on music theory to help myself be better at my musical language and to expand my no my knowlage.

In the second half of the lesson Seb ws talking about genre, he told us that we have to make a song in are chosen genre and make it clear that it was the genre that was chosen. The genre that was chosen was Pop Punk, whitch was what i picked. I basicaly got put in charge of the jam session without an idea of what we coukd do.At first i was a little nervouse as i only suggested this genre for an examplenot for us to acctualy do.

The first thing that i did was look up some Power chords for Brook to play on her acustic guitar the chords were C–G–Am–F. I then made Pat and Zoe learn them. whilst they spent time learning the chords i used my time to wright some qwick lyrics, whilst Lucas produced the drums on his computer. After we had evarything lernt we then had run thrughs. Seb said that “i need to make sure that the sound of Pop Punk dosent get lost”. The only thing i thought could change was how Pat played the piano instead of what she is playing in the video and instead play the same chords progression but arpeggiated instead. After trying this a few times we both agreed that it didnt sound as good as what she was prevously playing. She also added her owm melody on the breakdoen section after the chorus. One other thing i asked that could be changed was the way that brook played her guitar, insead of plucking was she able to to agressive strumming. She did take my advice and i feel it worked and that it did have more of that pop punk feel. when it came to the choruse she played the origanal strumming part to not make it sound repetitive.

The peice that we made wasnt exactly pop punk but it had plenty of elements of puk. For example we used power chords, the agressive strumming style Brook played and the vocal delivary on the verse. This track was inspierd by the “Nirvana Unpluged” album. As they are normaly known to play aggressive and gritty tracks, like other artist who fit in this simular style of music do. I used this as insporation as we were limated to what we could attcive with the musishans and knowlage we all on this particular genre. the vocals were inspierd by “Blink 182″ and Sum 41”. as they have a wine to their voice and a clear deivery whitch was what i was trying to demonstrate. If i had more time with this jam session i would have tried to get Zoe on backing as harmonising vocals is somthing commanly done in this genre.

This song is “First Date” by Blink 182 the vocal delivary was inspierd by this song on the chorus. i also used the song “pecies” bu Sum 14 the way that he sings the whole song was what inishaly gave im the idea of how to do my vocal delivery. its the was that he sing swith emotion even thoug this song isn’t sad i still wanted to covey my feeling theough my voice.

For my indupendednt study to get more of a pop punk vocal style i can whach youtube tutoreals of how to sing in theis style without harmimg my voclas, as lerning vocal growling/ agreeive vocals is somthing tha i have had an intrest in learning for a while.

Tueseday 16th November 2021

In todays lesson Seb told us that we are playing the role of a session musicians, we had to pick a song that we all knew and liked so that we could create a cover of it in are owm style. We only had around 25-30 minuets to complete this task and at the beginning it was quite hard as their was only 4 of us and we had no guitar as Brook had to leave early. We did end up spending the majority of the task trying to pick a track that we all knew and that was easy enough to play, as we all have different skills and tastes in music. I also was un able to play my uke as i need new strings. Zoe ended up playing the Bass Guitar/ vocals, Lucas was on his laptop and he made a cool and interesting Drum track and did the rap section, pat was on the Piano and I as singing most of the song. The song we chose to do was Paparazzi by Lady Ga Ga. We ended up playing C minor, E minor and for the chorus we played G#, D#, F minor, C#. The original track has elements of Pop, Electro pop, Electronic music and Dance Pop. I feel that are version of the song was close to the original with electronic drums that Lucas produced and the way it was sang. On the opening of the song it starts with the drums and me singing, then on the chorus Pat starts playing the Piano as Zoe come in on the acoustic bass. Whilst I was singing the chorus Zoe also joined in with me whilst singing in a higher register. After the second chorus Lucas started to do the rap section he dose this with raspy but genital delivery this really helped bring out the individuality of the track, along with other elements. I was quite happy with the final result considering we ended up giving are selves 5 minuets to arrange who was doing what and to memorise the piece. We only did 2 run through’s and managed to do the whole song even though we was told that we had to do the first verse and chorus if wanted.

This was what we produced, i feel that i could of improved my vocalsas when i hit the higher regester, i feel that they were not that strong as thet could have been. As i havent sang the song in a while and i dont sing high veary often. To improve on this i can practace doing it more in my owm time i also could whatch videos or when i have my singing lessons i could ask to go over it. I feel when i was singing the more powerful part of the chorus i feel i wass really confident. This because i knew it well and was feeling the music. I did enjoy this task as it was fun to take a popular song and compleatlly change the sound musically, it also was fun to have a jam and control over are performance we delivered. Their was some parts of the exersie that i didnt enjoy that much, i found it stressfull with the short amount of thime as just picking the song took up the majoraty of are time. I also found that if we had more time we could have really solidifyed it as we had a good idea that we could of added more to.

Sunday 21st November

So far for my performance i have picked 3 songs that i should hopefully be acompanyed by my friend Jaden from the first year to play the guitar, i still need to find my self a drummer but if im unable to get one i can still do the tracks i want to do they will just be more striped back. The songs that i have picked are Helana by My Chemical Romance, Neighbour by Ugly Kid Joe and The Only Exeption by Paromore. If i have my Uke strings in time i would like to play an origanal song or have Jaden learn it. If for some reason i am unable to have someone play for me i will either accompany my self or use backing tracks form YouTube.

For Helana if i was able to i would like to have it played on an Electric Guitar and a live Drum set with my class mate Zoe to sing the backing vocals. i have taken insporation from a cover i have found on YouTube. I like this vershon as its cloce to the origanal but it is still unique. If i had no one to play for me i would be able to use a instromental that is on YouTube.

For my performance of Neighbour i want to try and have Drums, electric Guitar and me on vocals. if no one was able to play the Guitar fr me i. would have to play a diffrent song as their is no backing tracks of this song that i coud find.I have been whaching this live performance in partocular as their is meant moments of stage craft that i could try incorparate in my peice. as i want to be constantly moving as if im stood still for the whole time i wold look boring for a song like this. This make me think of the 2nd of Novemver when Seb made us do this exercise where we stood up and thought about where the weight of the body was placed. He made us do this by feeling the weight move from each angnkle\ leg on each side by swaying. We did this to help give us an idea of how we should stand a present are selves when performing.

For my performance of The Only Exseption i woud like to be acompanyed by a Gutarist and possibly someone on the Box Drum. Vocaly it’s going to be cloce to the origanal but right at the end i do a ballad. Their is a section on the bridge thst im not the most confident but after taking the advice of my singing teacher last year. She sugestes on words that i struggle with, that i should sing with an american twang in my voice as if i was to sing it with an english accsesnt it loses the flow.

Hear is something videos of me practicing my interpretation of the track.

Tuesday 23rd November

today i was abset from class due t being un well, i spent some of the day whatching vocal lesons one of the videos that i whatched was “HOW TO SING MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE- HELENA SONG TUTORIAL/ VOCAL LESSON” . I found this video helpfull as she talks about when it comes to the choruse sing the melody but instead of saying the lyrics you say la la. She makes you do this as the chorus can be quite chalaing as it is quite high. She also talks about whe you sing this section not to push oy to much air and not to force youre volacls to go high, but instead to sing and whisper it so you can find a pitch that you are comfterbul with. This is a video of me trying her of her techniques.

Unit 9 my performances

Performance 1 : Life after love and Lost without you mash up

This is a live performance of me and holly in the Swinburne hall doing a mash-up of lost without you by Freya Ridings and life after life by Cher. The idea came to mind one day when I was listening to lost without you for the first time and I thought It sounded similar to life after love. I thought It would be good to do as a mash-up to do, so I asked Holly if she would be able to do it with me as I was really set on the idea of making it. In the performance, we both take interns singing the lead parts and changing what harmony’s we sing. when we were in band rooms we would practice as much as we could to a backing track and we would also try and experiment different ways of singing to see what we thought sounded best. When we were trying things out we would try and change the structure of both the songs to see wheat pars fit better and we would also change the melody to try and put our own spin on both the songs. I fee in this certain performance I had a lot of strengths singing in my higher range was one I felt that I achieved well, I felt like my projection was really strong wasn’t done half-assed I did really try my best and I also I feel I was really good at approaching this song whilst singing with the right kind of tone so sing with this kind of song. Because these 2 songs are about loving someone so much you feel lost when you’re not with them and the other song is similar as it is someone who has been in love and lost it and not sure if they can live without it. and when I’m singing this I’m trying really hard to portray this emotion and I personally feel like I achieved showing this. when I was performing this I feel I struggled with my breathing a lot as when I was singing softer I felt like I was being really breathy, I also feel like I struggled with my stage presence as I was really scared I didn’t want to move and I stood there like a statue I feel now I have gotten a lot better with my confidence when it comes to performing because I now move around and flow with the music.

Performance 2: smells like teen spirit as you have never heard before

This was a lesson where we had a cover lesson as are normal tutor for live sound wasn’t in. the person put us all in groups and said we had to a cover of smells like teen spirit by nirvana but it had to be in a different style. I was put in a group with Logan Katy and Georgie when we was in the band rooms we messed around with loads of different way to perform but we couldn’t decide on a style so we just went for a completely different interpretation on it. we had an upbeat piano done by Katy  to do the intro instead of guitar. After four loops of the intro with part Longan comes in doing the lead guitar lines and then I come in singing the verse. Then wen it builds up to the pre-chorus everything starts to speed up and get louder and to surprise everyone when its time for the chorus it went all soft to add some diversity to it. sadly when we were performing the camera stepped recording but the performance pretty much had the same flow. But when we was getting to the billed up we then had Georgie come in to do the riff on acoustic guitar witch weald the sound up more also to add more elements to the performance. In this performance, I feel like I needed to have more time to practice as we only had half an hour and to learn it but I feel like if we went over it a good few times we would have sounded so much better as there were parts in the video I mispronounced a few of the words for example I messed up this part “A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido” I missed pronounced the word libido. When I sang this my voice was shaky because I was stressing out as we didn’t get enough time to go over it I was panicking that I would mess up. But in this performance, I feel that I was really confident on the pre chores as I fell like my voice was really strong and I projected well. I also feel considering the little amount of time we had to practice we didn’t mess up that much like we strayed in time and al blended well together.

performance 3:  unexpected encounters

This was the most recent performance that I have done in the lesson it is one of my originals. This song was written in a sensitive time, it’s about how I miss my old group of friends, I took a series of real events and used them to create a story for other teenagers to be able to connect too. As I wrote this not just for myself but to gain the attention of my target audience. I feel like I have achieved what I set out to accomplished. I got heavily inspired by the artist Cavetown, I found him to be a massive inspiration with my writing as his creative technics with lyrics and melody. He has also been the reason I wanted to start playing the Ukulele. With this performance I struggled with my nerves as I hadn’t performed in a few weeks, I felt really overwhelmed. On the first verse, I messed up because I had only written the song on the Monday of that week, as I was frightened i would mess up which I did as my nerves took over. When it came to the sustained notes at the end of the song I did suffer with voice breaks due to being frightened. I feel that I really mastered singing the melody on the prechorus and changing the tempo of my strumming on the Uke in such a quick time. I also feel that I did achieve portraying the emotion I felt and wanted my audience to understand. I felt that I really did connect with my audience.

Some of the information I have in my blog is from asking family questions and also from personal knowledge but not all of it was from this so here are some links to websites I used to gather the information I needed.

My questions and the classes answers

In my class, I asked all the members 2 questions. Do you feel the music you listen to influences how you dress? And why? When asking these questions I got a range of different answers here are some of them.

After doing these questions I found out that there is no real answer to my questions. This is because for each person it’s a different answer.

unit 11

Task 1

When I leave college I have some goals I want to achieve the first one is to get a part-time job at this moment. I don’t know what job I will end up getting for I’m not sure what I need to do to make myself more appealing for a job. I also want to go to uni at Colchester institute to be able to get in I need to get a merit or higher to get in, I also still have to do my audition. To show I’m good enough for being able to get in I will have to make a great impression I have to come across as I’m confident, I need to sing or play something in my audition that shows I am good enough and that shows all my skills/what I can do to my full potential. After uni, I want to have a job still in whatever it is, I’m doing to earn some money.

Whilst working I want to try and save up for an Apple computer so I can record all my music at home for my original music. I also want to help record things for my friends and maybe earn some money. I want to release my music on apple music and Spotify so I can get a little money in my pocket. In the potential future, I would like 1 of 2 jobs I have in mind or even both of them.

My first choice is to either get a job in a nursery school as an assistant or a music teacher. To get this kind of job I need a degree and at least a GCSE C / 4 or equivalent in English, maths, and science to train as an early years teacher. I will also need to pass the professional skills tests in numeracy and literacy, but to teach music I need a bachelor’s degree and complete a state-approved teaching preparation program to meet certification requirements. A bachelor’s program in music education will include courses in musical theory, music in early childhood, and choral conducting. So far I have taken Child Care at High school I have got a level 2 merit. One day if this is the path I choose to take as a career option I will carry the education on further. I also want to try and get a side job doing singing at public advents, for example, a wedding or at a pub. This job is called a function singer. to be able to do this career I would need i would need to create a web page with regular updates. I would also need to make accounts on social media pages to be able to get myself recognized . Another few things that I could try would be making business cards and go to wedding fayres and hand them out. I could also make posters and be able to post them up in shops or go to an open mic evening and hand out either the business cards or posters.

I feel my strengths are that I i’m good with working with others, i’m very driven and and if something is going wrong I try and make the best out of the situation. For example say I was recording in a studio and we were having technical problems I would take that time whilst they’re fixing the issue to have some extra practice or look over my blog work and see if it’s alright. I feel that my weaknesses are that I struggle to hand coursework in on time but I’m trying to get better and improve my reliability, I also feel I struggle with tasks that are given to me but I try and seek help and I also struggle with confidence when it comes to performing but I’m trying to improve it and be able to perform without feeling nervous.

Task 2

When I first got my ukulele and I started to understand chords this was the first song I tried to learn when watching this video. I was taught about different styles of strumming and how to play it with a capo and without I found this lesson easy as it was a simple cord progression and strumming pattern when watching this video it took me around 20 minutes to be able to play it fluently. When I was learning this I did struggle with playing the G code at the beginning and where I was new to this instrument I did find the changing strumming difficult from going to a faster tempo to a slower one.

Task 3

unit 12

Task 1

 project proposal

Me from 1st year to year 2

Q: What skills have you acquired since being here?

I feel now that I’m in year 2 I have gained an amount of skills I feel like I have learnt from my old live sounds lessons how to set up a stage for performances. I have learnt how to set up a microphone and the stand. Learning this helps me as not every gig I go to will not be set up for me and I might have to set up myself and now I have the knowledge to do it if needed. I have learnt a range of warm ups for singing for example scales and different breathing techniques. I also went  from having no knowledge of how to play the piano to being able to and learning more ways to make my music sound better one way I did this was adding an arpeggio. also since year one I had no idea how to play a stringed instrument but now I am able play a ukulele and a beginners level and have even started laying the guitar at a beginners level  to. I also have gained a grate amount of confidence in my singing as last year I would stand still like a statue but now I let the music flow through me and have so much more confidence as now I can sing or play my instruments with out worrying what people think about me. I feel that being hear for over year I have progressed so much as a musician I started with not even basic skill and knowledge and would only sing songs to backing tracks but now I sing accompanied by myself and other musicians and I am able to get given feed back and actually take it in and try and improve my performances where as last year I wouldn’t really listen I would just shrug it off and think what I was doing was perfect but where as now I understand that my performances have flaws in them and I want to improve them.

Q: What does this mean for you going forward?

Moving forward for me means that I will get the chance to do things not just for others, but for myself. My aim is to get accepted into university, by doing this I will garner more knowledge and in turn will become a better musician. it would also mean t

Q: What is behind the path you have chosen in your study?

Q: What is the concept of your project?

Q: What is the aim of your project?

Q With some examples, what are your contextual aspirations?

unit 9

Mike – I’m not gonna lie, this is all I’ve got for unit 9…….

(sugar coat it)

This comment comes from a difficult place… I find musical study in the way that M.A engages with it, super difficult.

An excellent starting point is a fact that I have uploaded some notes that I don’t particularly understand. In this lesson, in particular, I feel like I struggle the most as I find the subjects we get taught difficult to understand. I feel I struggle to understand what we’re learning I tend to lose all concentration and stare into space as I find keeping my concentration on a subject I don’t understand hard. So I can get a little bit of understanding of the lesson I when I write notes of what we have been learning and ill ask questions.

I find on these two notes I don’t really understand them as they are about drum theory and as I’m not a drummer, so I have a lack of knowledge on the subject, but these are the only one of my notes from ma’s class I understand. I have a little understanding of it where I kind of get to know how it works but I still struggle on the part where I have to make a drumbeat as I don’t get drumming patterns. To try and progress in this subject i can ask my tutors for help or advice in this subject or i could go on the internet and look for the information i need or for one last thing i could try is I could go to some of the drummers for some information on this topic.

my field recordings

In my first video, was a cover of sweater weather it is filmed out side of a Starbucks. In the background there is sound of people shouting and talking, cars, wind and the music coming from a crappy phone speaker. The recording took approximately 5 times to record as we had the issues of messing the words up, being out of key or an issue with the music. there was a lot of people talking and making sound through out but we chose to do it there as we thought the sounds of cars and voices would case a more realistic sound of human activity when say a street performer is performing in the street. Also through out the video you can hear the wind this can cause all the sound to be lost or muffled as the phone microphone might only to be able  pick it up if its over powering, it also had the issue of drowning me, Holly and the music out. I think if i had the chance to do this again i wouldst sit down when i sing as when i do that it affects the sound  of my singing and im  squashing my diaphragm. I feel that singing it in the street helped us because it gave us a different environment to sing in and for when it comes to doing this type of recording it has helped me learn what  things to do and what not to do, such as to get assess to a better microphone and  with my other video i learnt that it might be worth trying to record with speakers and get microphone. In my opinion i feel that it went well as we managed to complete are task and we achieved the sound we wanted of the style of a person busking in the street.

This npr was filmed in as shut off and empty corridor. Near the beginning of the video there was a blackout in the hall way, the light its self didn’t causes an issue it was in that in reaction to this cause of events we all laughed and giggled witch then affected how me and Holly sounded whilst singing. and when the light did turn off i then had to walk around to turn it back on witch then led to me getting all wheezy and breathy as i was jumping and moving around witch led to me laughing more. The lights truing off also cussed the issue of Harry and Georgie losing there concentration playing they had the possibility to mess up. Around the mid section and by the end their was tow occurrences of people walking through the hall way and slamming the doers that causes the room to echo and for all of to get detracted and some of us then got anxiety and began panic and played or sing quieter. As we were singing in am empty room rather than a furnished room the hard walls, ceilings, the floors reflect sounds so they bounce around longer. Were if we had Carpets, furniture, paintings, rugs, etc. all absorb sound and so cause the echos to die down much more quickly. It was hard to hear Harry and Georgie as we had no microphones and Harry’s acoustic base was really drowned out by Georgeies guitar. we chose to do it in this hall way as we thought that the sound of reverb and echo would sound good and in my opinion it did. It gave it a more warm feeling. we also chose to do it in the hall way as we thought the acoustics would sound good. If there was a thing i would change about this recording i would change not having the light turn off as i feel that it made all of us lose are concentration and it causes up to talk and laugh witch i wasn’t to happy with ans due to me trying to turn the light on it ruined the way i sound.    I feel that this environment did work as we achieved are aim of getting the sound that we wanted. Working on this type of recording i thought it was really cool as i Laurent about different way of recording and it helped me progress as a musician as i have been able to broaden my knowledge and try new things.

unit 10 political moment

political moment

In the 1970s Women, African Americans, Native Americans, gays and lesbians and other marginalized people and many Americans joined the protest so they could all be equal.

One key thing to do with the 1970s there was a lot of conflict. Through out the 1970s there was strike leaders sent to prison and then freed by a massive strikes in retaliation, the youth fighting in the streets against each other, against the police and against the army in Ireland, there was miners strikes, bad power cuts, three day week, women protesting for equal rights, Tory government brought down. The working class loud, proud and winning.

The Labour government did the nation dirty in the aid of the union leaders. There was rapid rise in unemployment especially with the youth. Racism grew more and the fascist National Front started to grow, parading in the streets and doing well in local elections.

unit 10 the punk movment

punk movment

The punk subculture includes an array of ideas, fashion and other forms of expression, visual art, literature and film. It normally is characterised by anti-establishment views and the promotion of individual freedom, and is centred on a loud, aggressive genre of rock music.

The punk subculture was in many ways established in England. Years after following World War II had experienced significant economic hardships and social fragmentation.

The punk movement was a way for the young people to express them selves and basically to stick it to the government as no young people could get jobs so they would start riots, dress ways that other people would find offensive they and to be as rude and crude as they could be and would play There music as it was controversial and outrageous and the how they saw them selves.

unit 10 the rebellion

rebellion

Punk is known for chaos everything that and that is every thing punks have to do with – in their clothing style, in their behaviour, in the aggressive attitudes/behaviour. punk is the culture that is against  the social imprisonment of certain people. Punk is a rebellion against dullness and rules.

The sex pistols really played a big part in making British punk blossom. the sex pistols came to life in 1975 by Malcolm McLaren. In 1977 the sex pistolst song “god save the queen” was banned from being played on the BBC for “gross bad taste.” As it was released right before queen Elizabeths silver Jubilee. The drummer Paul Cook says that the song “wasn’t written specifically for the queens’ jubilee. with them doing this led to more people being more rebellious.

The Sagebrush Rebellion was when the miners, loggers, and ranchers were rebelling against “Federal Colonialism” this isn’t necessarily to do with the Punks of the 1970s, but it was a form of rebellion going on at that time.
